Dan Nelson is a video editor based in New York City with over 15 years of experience working for networks and streamers such as ABC, Netflix, HULU, Discovery, History, HBO, VICE, and The NBA, amongst others. He has worked on hit series like Alone and documentaries such as The Housewife and the Hustler 2, which charted at #1 on Hulu. Exposing Parchman, a documentary series Dan edited, was an official selection of the Tribeca Film Festival. Recently, he received two News and Documentary Emmy nominations for projects he edited. One of those projects, RAP TRAP, Hip Hop on Trial won the Emmy for Outstanding Arts, Culture or Entertainment Coverage.
Dan has a passion for storytelling and a natural curiosity to explore and understand the human condition. He also exhibits a tireless work ethic that drives him to craft the best possible stories and ensure every shot selected in the edit has meaning and purpose. He thrives off of collaboration but is also used to working independently, handling multiple responsibilities and providing high quality work under tight deadlines. He draws inspiration from classic documentaries such as Hoop Dreams, American Movie, The Last Waltz, Pumping Iron, and The War Room, as well as contemporary documentaries such as Citizen 4, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Free Solo, and Navalny.
Dan lives in Queens with his wife Jessica, a public school librarian, and their two young boys Evan and Jonah.
